GTA Participates in 2022 Liberation Festivities

Tamuning, Guam, Wednesday, July 20, 2022- On Tuesday, July 19, about 30 GTA employees volunteered their time in the evening to help the Mayors' Council of Guam decorate one of several floats for the 78th Liberation Day parade to be held in the island's capital. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Guam could not have in-person celebrations like the annual parade. This year, the Mayors' Council created a float to encourage families in their communities to become foster families. Volunteers were at the Mangilao Mayor's Office to help decorate and put the finishing touches on the float.

Allan Ungacta, Mangilao Mayor, says, "We are happy to participate in this, and we look forward to representing (in the parade). We have a lot of volunteers helping out the partnership with groups like GTA and a lot of the interns- we're utilizing them as well as the staff- the community in general. With these partnerships, we are very grateful to those participating one way or another and helping to put together the floats for the Liberation festivities."

Through its Team Up for Guam employee volunteer program, GTA gives back to the community year-round through philanthropic initiatives and volunteerism. In addition to working with the Mayors' Council of Guam this year, GTA is also sponsoring the Liberation festivities organized by Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio, village mayors, and the Guam Visitors Bureau. The local telecom company will also walk alongside the USO Guam during the parade on Thursday, July 21.
