Huntsman Foundation Donates $100,000 to Support Island Mayors After Typhoon Mawar

(Tamuning, Guam) Wednesday, June 28, 2023- The Huntsman Foundation has generously donated $100,000 to aid the island's mayors in their recovery efforts following the devastating impact of Typhoon Mawar. Demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the island community, the Huntsman Foundation aims to provide essential and truly needed support to the affected areas for rebuilding and restoring our villages.

Paul Huntsman from the Huntsman Foundation and GTA Board Chairman, states, "As the anchor investor in GTA, the Huntsman Foundation's broader mission is to alleviate human suffering, and we hope our support can ease the suffering inflicted by Typhoon Mawar."

“We are proud to be a part of this westernmost frontier of America and will help in any way we can with our 500 local employees to help Guam shine again,” he added.

Typhoon Mawar caused widespread devastation across Guam, resulting in significant hardship for many residents. Recognizing the urgent need for assistance, the Huntsman Foundation promptly stepped up to lend a helping hand.

The $100,000 contribution from the Huntsman Foundation will directly benefit the island's mayors, who play a crucial role in coordinating relief efforts and supporting affected communities. The donation will cover meals for mayors, their staff, and volunteers, ensuring that those tirelessly working to aid in the recovery process are nourished and energized. Additionally, the funds will be used to provide gas, enabling mayors and their teams to travel efficiently to impacted areas. It also includes the procurement of essential hardware and supply items needed for the recovery process. Further, GTA, in collaboration with the Huntsman Foundation, will provide heavy equipment, machinery, and resources to remove debris along several roads in the villages.

Piti Mayor and President of Mayors' Council of Guam Jesse Alig, says, " GTA is our local, hometown telecom.  They are our partner and recognized the needs of our community and offered to help without hesitation amid coping with their own recovery efforts. With this contribution, my colleagues and -our staff will be able to continue the rebuilding our homes and our villages. Partnerships such as these make Guam the best place to call home."

The Huntsman Foundation and GTA have been significant contributors to Guam's economic growth and development for several years, fostering job creation, technological advancement, and community engagement. Through their ongoing investments, they have continuously demonstrated their belief in Guam's potential and their desire to play a meaningful role in its progress.
