(Tamuning, Guam) Monday, March 18, 2024 – GTA proudly announces the completion of the fifth installment of the Village Mural Project, with a captivating ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Friday, March 15. The event took place at the site of the old gas station in Malesso, once an eyesore for many years, now transformed into a vibrant testament to community pride and artistic expression.
Local artist Lee San Nicolas (@thefueking) spearheaded the creation of the mural, infusing the project with his unique talent and vision. The mural not only revitalizes the physical space but also captures the rich cultural heritage and spirit of Malesso', enriching the local landscape for residents and visitors alike and right in time for the Crab Festival weekend.
San Nicolas says, "First of all, I want to thank Auntie Pat. This is the Tomoge land area where she grew up with her mother and father Tun and Chong. It really motivates me to keep going and keep pursuing what I want to do especially here on the island that we call home and that we all love. I'm truly thankful for the opportunity. Placing all the pieces together that I needed to complete the project, which I really enjoyed."
The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders. GTA extends heartfelt appreciation to the mayor of Malesso Ernest Chargualaf and retired GTA employee, Frank Champaco, for their unwavering support and dedication. Furthermore, GTA acknowledges the invaluable contributions of other residents who generously lent their assistance, alongside the gracious family who provided the land for the mural.
Through initiatives like the Village Mural Project, GTA reaffirms its commitment to fostering community engagement, supporting local artists, and beautifying public spaces across Guam. This transformative endeavor not only celebrates the talent and creativity of local artists but also strengthens the bonds that unite communities.
