GTA Unveils New Village Mural in Hågat

(Hågat, Guam — Friday, March 6, 2026) — GTA proudly unveiled its newest village mural in the beautiful southern village of Hågat, continuing its effort to celebrate Guam’s culture, history, and community one village at a time.

The mural was created by local artist Lee San Nicolas, known for his vibrant GTA mural in Malesso’. His latest piece in Hågat captures elements that reflect the heart and identity of the village.

Hågat Mayor Kevin Susuico shared that the design reflects the pride and spirit of the community, bringing to life imagery that residents can connect with and celebrate.

“The mural significantly enhances the beauty of the area at the Ilao Apartments along Route 2, across from our office,” said Mayor Susuico. “It serves as a wonderful representation of our village, perfectly capturing our beautiful sunsets, the yellow hibiscus, and the mango fruit — which represents both our community and the largest festival on Guam.”

The village of Hågat is also known for hosting its annual Mango Festival each May, a beloved community celebration that highlights the island’s local culture, food, and traditions.

Artist Lee San Nicolas shared that the mural was designed to reflect the natural beauty and cultural pride of the village while creating something residents can feel connected to.

Through its ongoing Village Mural Project, GTA continues to invest in community spaces while uplifting local artists and cultural storytelling across the island.

“This mural is another way for us to give back to the community we serve,” said Michele Catahay Perez, Director of Community Relations at GTA. “By partnering with local artists and village leaders, we’re proud to support projects that celebrate the unique stories and heritage of Guam’s villages.”

GTA extends its appreciation to the village of Hågat, Mayor Susuico, and artist Lee San Nicolas for their collaboration in bringing the mural to life. The project is part of GTA’s broader commitment to community engagement and cultural preservation across Guam.

As the Village Mural Project continues, GTA looks forward to working alongside communities to transform public spaces into meaningful works of art that reflect the spirit of the island.
