(Tamuning, Guam) Tuesday, September 29, 2026 — GTA and Elveo Mobile have successfully completed an end-to-end technical demonstration of SMS connectivity over an LTE network using satellite connectivity, marking an important milestone in exploring satellite-enabled mobile communications for Guam.
The technical demonstration successfully validated the transmission and reception of SMS messages over an LTE connection established through Elveo's satellite network. The test demonstrated the ability to extend mobile connectivity beyond the traditional terrestrial network footprint while using standard LTE technology and a conventional mobile device.
As part of the demonstration, a mobile device successfully connected to an LTE network through satellite connectivity and completed an end-to-end SMS exchange.
The test validated the complete communication path between the mobile device, the satellite network, and the terrestrial mobile network infrastructure, demonstrating the potential for satellite technology to complement existing cellular networks and extend connectivity to areas where terrestrial coverage may be limited.
“This successful demonstration represents an exciting step in our ongoing efforts to explore new technologies that can enhance connectivity for Guam,” said Andrew Gayle, Chief Operating Officer at GTA. “Satellite-enabled mobile connectivity has the potential to complement our existing network and provide additional connectivity options, particularly in remote areas and during situations where terrestrial infrastructure may be unavailable or disrupted.”
Guam's geographic location in the Pacific makes resilient and reliable communications infrastructure particularly important. Satellite connectivity can provide an additional layer of communications capability by extending connectivity beyond areas served by traditional terrestrial infrastructure.
The successful LTE SMS demonstration with Elveo provides GTA with valuable technical experience in integrating and evaluating satellite-based mobile connectivity and represents an initial step toward exploring potential future applications of the technology.

GTA and Elveo will continue discussions and technical evaluation of satellite-enabled mobile connectivity, including potential applications for coverage extension, network resilience, and connectivity in remote areas.
