Tamuning, Guam, Tuesday, June 21, 2022- GTA hosted a one-day Girls Code workshop for the Guam Girl Scouts today at the GTA Experience Center in Tamuning. GTA created the program in 2020 to empower young girls ages 12 to 16 to spark their interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). It offers the basics of coding and computer science.
Krystal Ramos, membership and program specialist at Guam Girl Scouts, said STEM is one of the four components of the Girl Scout program. The others are outdoors, life skills, and entrepreneurship.
“We’re thrilled to partner with GTA and open up the world of STEM to our Guam Girl Scouts,” Ramos said.
Michele Catahay Perez, Community Relations Manager at GTA, says, "Through our GTA Gives Empowered by GTA program, we are giving youth in our community opportunities to pursue their passion. We started our Girls Code workshops before the pandemic, so we are excited to host another one- this time with our Guam Girl Scouts."
Today's workshop hosted about 15 Guam Girl Scout Cadets, Seniors, and Ambassadors and was taught and facilitated by GTA’s IT team and interns assisting this summer. As the local telecom company continues to build on youth empowerment initiatives, GTA continues to provide our youth in the community with lasting opportunities.
