(Tamuning, Guam) Wednesday, September 18, 2024- GTA held a successful Mobile Manåmko' workshop on Monday, September 16 at the Yona/Talofofo Senior Citizen Center, bringing together around 25 seniors to help them learn how to effectively use their smart devices. This community initiative is part of GTA's ongoing commitment to bridging the digital divide by empowering residents of all ages, especially the elderly, to stay connected in today’s fast-paced digital world.
During the workshop, GTA Smart Center reps and volunteers provided hands-on guidance, teaching seniors how to navigate their smartphones, use essential apps, connect with loved ones via messaging, and stay informed through the internet. The seniors were enthusiastic about the opportunity to enhance their tech skills and expressed appreciation for the chance to become more confident in using digital tools.
“We believe that technology should be accessible to everyone, and workshops like these help ensure that our manåmko' (elders) are not left behind,” said Michele Catahay Perez, Sr. Community Relations Manager at GTA. “Our goal is to foster independence and help them stay engaged with the community through technology.”
The Mobile Manåmko' workshop is just one of several community-focused initiatives that GTA is spearheading to promote digital literacy and inclusion across Guam. The Yona/Talofofo event marked the ninth workshop since the program's launch last year. The next and final workshop of 2024 will be held on November 18, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Hagat Senior Center. To sign up, visit HERE or email prsquad@gta.net.
