(Tamuning, Guam) Tuesday, February 21, 2023- GTA, Guam's longest-serving local telecom company, is thrilled to announce the unveiling its latest mural, "Soar to Great Heights," a creative art piece designed by local artist Lucille "Luci" Ronquillo. Last year, the company launched the Village Mural Project to support local artists and strengthen community connections by creating a mural in every village in Guam.
Located in the heart of MTM and along Tenbat road, the mural draws inspiration from Guam's native birds, including the Guam Rail or Ko'ko' bird, the Mariana Crow, and the Micronesian Kingfisher. Luci's mural captures the beauty of our birds and reminds residents of the importance of preserving and protecting our natural heritage. The village flower, the plumeria, was also incorporated into the mural piece.
Nate Denight, Vice President of Marketing at GTA, says, "We're thrilled to unveil this beautiful new mural and to showcase the incredible talent of our island's local artists. We believe that art can bring people together and strengthen community ties. We hope Luci's mural at MTM will be a source of inspiration and connection for everyone who sees it."
Mong Mong-Toto-Maite Mayor Rudy Paco says, "When you enter a village and see a beautiful mural there, you say, 'wow! I want to see what else is inside this community that they have all these nice birds and flowers.' It starts with the community, and I'm happy MTM can participate in this initiative."
Luci adds, "I think it's very important, and I'm so glad that GTA is partnering up with local artists not only the community's talents but also telling a story. Art starts with passion. Just keep on going with that, and whatever you do, it starts with you- on how to begin something and then move forward to the future."
