(Tamuning, Guam) Monday, May 15, 2023 - Today the GTA Smart Center technicians and GTA volunteers conducted a workshop aimed at teaching the elderly how to use their smartphones. The event, held at the Inalåhan Senior Citizen Center, was the third of its kind, with three more workshops scheduled in the coming weeks in Tamuning, Yigo, and Mangilao.
The GTA Mobile Manåmko' Workshop is part of the telecom company's mission to inspire the island community and keep people connected. With the ever-growing role of technology in our daily lives, it is essential to provide access and education to everyone, including the elderly.
The workshop was attended by several seniors who were eager to learn and improve their smartphone skills. The GTA Smart Center Technicians and volunteers provided hands-on assistance with setting up their phones, navigating the operating system, and downloading and using popular apps like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
"We are proud to provide our expertise to the elderly community through our Mobile Manåmko' Workshop series," said Michele Catahay Perez, Sr. Community Relations Manager at GTA. "We believe that technology should be accessible to everyone, and these workshops are a great way to empower our elders to stay connected with their loved ones and the world around them."
The workshop received overwhelming positive feedback from the attendees, with many expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to learn and interact with the GTA team. The elderly population often feels disconnected from the rapidly changing world of technology, and the workshop helped bridge that gap and create a more connected community.
GTA is committed to its mission of keeping people connected and plans to continue organizing workshops and events that promote digital literacy and connectivity across the island.
The workshops are free to attend and are open to people ages 60 years and older. Due to limited space, interested participants must sign up early to reserve their spots. The form link is at bit.ly/3l7EfCa.
