Tamuning, Guam, Wednesday, December 29, 2021- GTA mentors dedicate their time to grow high school students under the Junior Achievement Company Program. JA inspires and prepares young people for success and entrepreneurship, and through the JA Company Program, the Amare Project, students are bringing forth the issue of mental health awareness and using their platform to promote self-love.
Grace Anne Dela Cruz, Simon Sanchez High School Senior and Amare Project President, says the word Amare is the Latin word for ‘love’ or ‘to be loved.’ The company not only sells a product that can help others, but it gives people a space to think about their mental health and join a community that understands.
“We wanted our company to focus on mental health not only because it is important but because we feel that more people should be talking about it and recognizing how detrimental it would be when someone is not in a good mental state,” says Dela Cruz, who is also a GTA Youth Leader for School Year 2021-2022. She added, “We also wanted to promote self-love and care through this discussion about mental health, which is also where we got the inspiration for our name.”
The Amare Project team created custom hoodies, t-shirts, and stickers with a semicolon design, which is a subtle icon of supporting and raising awareness of mental health. Hoodies are $50, and t-shirts are $25. Both come in three colors: black, white, and tan. As for stickers, the price ranges from $4-$10. Dela Cruz leads the Amare Project as its president. Merry Ann Ocampo from Simon Sanchez High is Vice President of Finance, Brian Teodosio from Simon Sanchez High is Vice President of Marketing, and Mel Delgado from Simon Sanchez High is Vice President of Production.
