(YOÑA, Guam - Monday, May 11, 2026) — GTA proudly unveiled two new murals in Yoña over the weekend, located near Windward Hills and Baza Gardens, as part of its ongoing Village Mural Project, an initiative dedicated to bringing art, culture, and community pride to all 19 villages across Guam.
Created by local artist Frank Candaso (@Franklive on Instagram), the installation features two distinct murals inspired by Yoña’s connection to land and sea. In collaboration with Mayor BJ Terlaje, the designs reflect Yoña’s rich agricultural history, its people and traditions, surrounding waters, and the iconic karabao, brought to life through vibrant colors and dynamic imagery that share the village’s story from every angle.
The project was made possible through the support of Mayor Terlaje, along with the GTA OSP team and volunteers, who prepared the site through water blasting to ensure a clean canvas for the artwork.
“It’s an honor to be part of GTA’s Village Mural Project,” said Candaso. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the community and for GTA’s continued support of local artists, not just through connectivity, but by building meaningful connections within the community.”
“This project is something our community can take pride in,” said Mayor BJ Terlaje. “It reflects the story of Yoña- of our land, our people, and our traditions, and brings new life to a space that residents see every day. We’re grateful for this partnership with GTA and the artist in creating something meaningful for our village.”
“As part of our Village Mural Project, we’re proud to continue investing in spaces that celebrate each village’s unique story,” said Michele Catahay Perez, Director of Community Relations at GTA. “Yoña’s murals reflect its natural beauty, history, and strong sense of community.”
Through initiatives like this, GTA continues its commitment to uplifting communities across Guam through meaningful public art.
